The Epic of Drashovica

This commemorative event, established over the years as a tradition, is organized in honor of those who fell for the freedom of the homeland. It is linked to the Battle of Drashovica, one of the fiercest battles of the National Liberation War, fought from September 14 to October 4, 1943, against the fortified German garrison in Drashovica. On the same hills where, in 1920, the fighters of Labëria under the leadership of Osman Haxhiu drove the Italian occupiers into the sea during the Vlora War, 23 years later a new generation of fighters confronted the Nazi German occupiers. Following the capitulation of Fascist Italy on September 9, 1943, the partisan forces of the Vlora District, in accordance with the order of the General Staff of the National Liberation Army, organized the attack against the enemy garrison in Drashovica.
